How To Predict Shin Bone Strength

The tibia works in conjunction with your knee and ankle joints to support most of your body weight. Obviously, the strength of this bone is important to performance in a wide range of individual and team sports. A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research shows one way to predict tibial bone strength.

Eighty-six college athletes had their bone mineral density measured along with other indicators of bone strength. They also performed a variety of fitness assessments. Although grip strength and maximum leg press were not good indicators of tibial bone strength, peak powder calculated from vertical jump height was a fairly reliable assessment tool.
